Inspiration has assembled a management team with considerable experience in the research, development, regulatory approval, manufacturing and commercialization of coagulation products.
John Taylor (Co-founder)
Chairman
Mr. Taylor is the co-founder and Chairman of Inspiration Biopharmaceuticals as well as Chairman, CEO and CIO of FX Concepts, an investment management company with $12.2 billion in assets. He has over 35 years of experience in the foreign exchange and related fixed income markets. Prior to founding FX Concepts, Mr. Taylor was a Vice President at Citibank where he headed the bank’s foreign exchange marketing and advisory services. He has been actively involved with the hemophilia community, both as a patient advocate and in the search for improved factor therapies. He was a founder of U.S. Transgenics (currently American Integrated Biologics), a founder of The Coalition for Hemophilia B, and is the recipient of two issued U.S. patents for coagulation protein drug delivery. Mr. Taylor is a magna cum laude graduate of Princeton University.
Scott Martin (Co-founder)
Vice-Chairman
Mr. Martin is the co-founder and Executive Vice President of Inspiration Biopharmaceuticals. He is also on the Board of Directors of Martin Midstream Partners (NASDAQ:MMLP) and Executive Vice President and board member of Martin Resource Management Corp. (MRMC), a petroleum distribution company with over $1billion in revenue. Mr. Martin is experienced in capital markets and business formation and has founded various business lines within MRMC. He plays a key role in the initial public offering of select business units for Martin Midstream Partners, as well as previously leading the Company’s merger and aquisition activities. Mr. Martin is a graduate of the University of Arkansas.
Michael Griffith, Ph.D.
President and Chief Executive Officer, Director
Dr. Griffith, President and Chief Executive Officer of Inspiration Biopharmaceuticals has over 18 years of experience in the biotechnology industry. Most recently, he was President and CEO of Bluebird Biosciences, Inc., a recombinant protein product development company. From 1985 to 1998, Dr. Griffith held various positions at Baxter International including that of Vice President of Scientific Affairs, where he was head of research, development and regulatory affairs. During this time, Dr. Griffith led product development teams in the development of highly purified coagulation Factor VIII from plasma, recombinant DNA and mammalian cell cultures. Dr. Griffith also served as Vice President, Product Development and Clinical & Regulatory Affairs for Nexell Therapeutics, Inc. where he directed the effort to develop a combination biologic/device for stem cell isolation from peripheral blood and bone marrow. After earning a Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio, and performing post-doctoral research in the field of blood coagulation and hemostasis at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Dr. Griffith held academic positions at the University of North Carolina, was the principal investigator on several federally funded research grants, and served as the Scientific Director for the Clinical Coagulation Laboratory at North Carolina Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill. During his academic career Dr. Griffith authored or co-authored over 30 published journal articles.
Alison Arter, M.B.A.
Vice President, Market Development
Ms. Arter is Vice President of Marketing Development at Inspiration Biopharmaceuticals where she brings over thirty years of experience in coagulation and hemostasis. Since 2003, Ms. Arter has been President of Apted, Baer & Clark, Inc., a consulting firm that offers marketing and business development expertise to small biotech companies. She was formerly Senior Vice President of the Biological Division of Bayer Pharmaceuticals, with responsibility for the worldwide marketing, sales and life cycle management of over $1 billion in biological products, including plasma-derived and recombinant Factor VIII. Previously, Ms. Arter was a Director of Global Strategic Marketing at Bayer Pharmaceuticals where she was responsible for setting worldwide development and launch strategies for coagulation products. After receiving a B.A. in biomedical engineering, from Northwestern University and an MBA from the University of Southern California, Ms. Arter began her career at the Hyland Division of Baxter International where she was Product Manager for coagulation products, including Factor IX.
Bruce Davis, M.S.
Vice President Manufacturing
Mr. Davis, the Vice President of Manufacturing at Inspiration Biopharmaceuticals brings extensive biopharmaceutical product development and protein manufacturing expertise. Most recently, he was Senior Vice President of Manufacturing Development at Bluebird Biosciences, Inc. where he developed manufacturing strategies for recombinant proteins. Previously, Mr. Davis was Vice President of Manufacturing at Epicyte Pharmaceuticals, Inc. where he developed and implemented manufacturing strategies for plant-derived recombinant protein products for clinical trials and led a successful FDA chemistry and manufacturing control (CMC) review. He also served as Director of Antibody Development and Manufacturing/Global Supply Chain at Nexell Therapeutics and was Director of Materials at Baxter International. Mr. Davis holds a BS in Biology and a MS in Industrial Engineering from Stanford University.
Ed Gomperts, M.D.
Medical Director
Dr. Gomperts is the Medical Director of Inspiration Biopharmaceuticals. He also serves as Director of Clinical Research at the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles and is the Clinical Professor of Pediatrics and Pathology at the University of Southern California. From 1990 to 2005, Dr. Gomperts was Vice President of Global Medical Affairs and Clinical Development at the Bioscience Division of Baxter International. His major research interests include pathophysiology of the complications of inherited bleeding disorders, and genetic and environmental factors associated with anti-Factor VIII inhibitors. Dr. Gomperts has authored and co-authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications. He received his bachelor’s degree, his medical degree (M.B., B.Ch), and a Doctorate in Medicine degree from the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa and a M.Sc. degree from the University of London, Imperial College. Dr. Gomperts served an internship at Johannesburg General Hospital and residency at the South African Institute for Medical Research. He was awarded a British Council Fellowship, which permitted him to study at the Imperial College of Science and he completed a fellowship at the Royal Postgraduate Medical School and Hammersmith Hospital in London.
Martin Lee, Ph.D.
Vice President, Clinical Development and Regulatory Affairs
Dr. Lee is Vice President of Clinical Development and Regulatory Affairs at Inspiration Biopharmaceuticals. He is also Adjunct Professor of Internal Medicine, Biostatistics at the UCLA School of Public Health and Adjunct Professor of Internal Medicine at at the King-Drew Medical Center, Department of Endocrinology. From 1998 through 2001, Dr. Lee was Director of Clinical Strategy and Biostatistics at the Hyland Immuno Division of Baxter International. He previously held regulatory senior management roles at several small life science companies and provided private biotechnology consultation. From 1979 through 1990, Dr. Lee was the Director of Medical Affairs at the Hyland Division of Baxter International. He has published extensively on the pharmacokinetics of blood coagulation and is a member of the Factor VIII and Factor IX subcommittee of the International Society for Thrombosis and Hemostasis. Dr. Lee received his bachelor’s degree and Ph.D. in Biostatistics with a minor in Biological Chemistry from the University of California Los Angeles.
Lynne R. Rollins
Chief Financial Officer
Ms. Rollins is Chief Financial Officer of Inspiration Biopharmaceuticals where she brings over 25 years of experience in the healthcare industry in the areas of finance and business development. Most recently she has had her own consulting business as a CFO consulting for start-up pharmaceutical and medical device companies. Ms. Rollins has also held various positions at Baxter Healthcare Corporation over a span of 19 years including, Vice President of Business Development for the Cardiopulmonary Business of the Cardio Vascular Group and Vice President of Finance for the Cardiopulmonary Business. Ms. Rollins received her B.S. degree from California State University, Northridge and her MBA from Pepperdine University.
John Bacich Jr.
Senior Industry Liaison
Mr. Bacich is Senior Industry Liaison of Inspiration Biopharmaceuticals where he brings over 38 years of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry. He worked at Baxter Healthcare Corporation from 1968 until his retirement in 1998. During that time he held leadership positions which included head of quality mananagement, research and development, global manufacturing operations and general management. At the time of his retirement, Mr. Bacich was president of what is now called the Bioscience Division of Baxter Healthcare Corporation and had responsibility for the safety of plasma products worldwide and the development of therapeutic recombinant proteins. He is a charter board member of the Plasma Protein Therapeutics Association (PPTA), the only industry association for manufacturers of therapeutic plasma proteins and their recombinant equivalents. Mr. Bacich remains active in the biopharmaceutical industry as a consultant and board member of several commercial firms. He holds a B.S. in Microbiology from California State University, Long Beach, and is a Director of the Southern California Hemophilia Society.
