According to a study in the American Journal of Epidemiology in 2010, the antioxidants found in red wine may help you prevent getting sick. Among the 4,000 participants in the study, it was found that those who drank more than 14 glasses of wine a week for a year were 40 per cent less likely to suffer from the common cold. According to the National Institutes of Health, antioxidants can fight infection and protect cells against the effect of free radicals.

Red wine can prevent cancer

According to the researchers at the University of Virginia, the resveratrol you can get from drinking just one glass of red win, three to four times a week is enough to starve off nascent cancer cells. Red wine can prevent weight gain

Numerous studies done into the benefits of red wine on your health have concluded that red wine can prevent weight gain. In 2012 a study out of Korea found that a compound in red grapes, piceatannol, is able to block the process that causes fat cells to grow. This compound actually binds to the insulin receptors of fat cells, blocking the pathways that enable immature fat cells to mature and grow.2

Researchers at the Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine concluded that resveratrol was able to help in the prevention of age-related memory decline.
